TAMKO®: Making High Quality Building Products With Recycled Materials
TAMKO used over 420 Million pounds of Recycled Materials in 2007

Joplin, Mo. – February 13, 2008 – For nearly 65 years, TAMKO Building Products, Inc. has been manufacturing roofing, decking and other building materials with an unsurpassed commitment to quality. That commitment to quality means using the best grade of raw materials to manufacture building products for customers across the nation. That commitment extends to TAMKO utilizing a number of recycled products in their manufacturing processes.

Over the course of 2007, TAMKO used over 420 million pounds of recycled materials in their building products. TAMKO purchases recycled materials from locations around the country to manufacture building products at many of TAMKO’s plants in the United States. “We have been able to recycle post-consumer and industrial materials for use in our products without compromising our standards or quality,” said Kent Blanchard, vice president of roofing manufacturing. “We have been using recycled cardboard and paper for decades in the production of our roofing felt.”  Felt composes the base layer of saturated felt used underneath roofing shingles. TAMKO also uses recycled materials in the production of the Elements and EverGrain composite decking lines. Recycled plastics, wood fiber and particle board are combined to create uniquely formed decking products through extrusion and compression molding processes. “Elements decking is produced with 100 percent recycled plastic,” said Richard O’Hare, vice president of manufacturing for Epoch. “Most people don’t even realize that their Elements composite deck may have once been milk jugs and plastic shopping bags.” TAMKO’s vice president of sales and marketing Stephen McNally said that TAMKO’s commitment to manufacturing quality building products remains first and foremost. “At the same time we are proud to do our part in utilizing recycled materials and designing products that are both appealing, and environmentally friendly.”
